Steel Rolling Mill Electrical and Automation Technician

Role overview

MaViAl Sp. z o.o. is recruiting an experienced Steel Rolling Mill Electrical and Automation Technician for full-time, on-site work coordinated from Viale della Scienza 81, 36100 Vicenza, Veneto, Italy.

The technician will maintain, diagnose and safely return to service the assigned power, control and machine-safety systems used in steel rolling operations. This is a hands-on industrial maintenance role for a technician who can combine disciplined electrical work with structured automation diagnostics during planned inspections and production breakdowns.

Main responsibilities:

  • Inspect and maintain assigned low- and medium-voltage distribution equipment within current authorisation, including switchboards, transformers, motor-control centres, protection devices, converters, variable-frequency drives, motors and control power supplies.
  • Maintain electrical and control systems serving rolling stands, roller tables, shears, straighteners, conveyors, hydraulic power units, cooling-water pumps, fans and extraction equipment.
  • Check motor brakes, encoders, proximity and photoelectric sensors, limit switches, emergency stops, safety interlocks, guarding circuits and warning devices.
  • Read approved single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, PLC input/output lists, control narratives, cable schedules, terminal plans, equipment manuals and preventive-maintenance instructions.
  • Perform authorised continuity, insulation-resistance, voltage and protective-earth checks using calibrated instruments and approved test methods.
  • Apply permit-to-work, lockout and tagout, stored-energy, moving-machinery, hot-surface and work-at-height controls before intervention.
  • Use HMI alarm history, PLC input/output status and drive fault codes to locate failures without making unapproved software, safety-logic or parameter changes.
  • Replace authorised components, align and calibrate sensors, restore guards and protections, and complete functional tests before returning machinery to production.
  • Coordinate equipment isolation, diagnosis, repair and release with mechanical maintenance, production and automation personnel.
  • Record inspections, readings, faults, parts, repairs, tests and open defects in the maintenance management system.

Requirements:

  • At least five years of electrical and automation maintenance experience in steel production, rolling mills, metal processing or comparable heavy manufacturing.
  • Technical diploma or vocational qualification in electrical engineering, electrotechnics, industrial automation or mechatronics.
  • Practical experience with industrial switchboards, motor-control centres, transformers, drives, motors, encoders, sensors, safety circuits and industrial cabling.
  • Ability to read electrical drawings, PLC input/output lists, control logic, cable schedules, terminal plans and equipment manuals.
  • Competence with calibrated multimeters, insulation testers, continuity instruments and approved electrical test methods.
  • Understanding of PLC diagnostics, HMI alarm analysis, industrial communications and variable-frequency drive fault codes within the assigned scope.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic interfaces sufficient to diagnose electrical and control faults on production machinery.
  • Current electrical authorisation plus lockout/tagout, arc-flash awareness, work-at-height and rescue training where required.
  • A driving licence valid in Italy, sufficient English and Italian for technical and safety communication, and legal eligibility to work in Italy.

The base rate is €22 gross per hour for 40 hours per week. The reporting area is Viale della Scienza 81, 36100 Vicenza. Applications are accepted only through the official OpeningsHub resume form.
